For the most part, laptop power settings are set by central policies. These are set to prolong battery life and prevent accidental loss of work when buttons are pressed accidentally.


However, there are times when you would want to close your laptop's lid without it going to sleep or turning off. Therefore, provision has been made for users to be able to change those settings themselves.


First, find the battery icon in the system tray next to the clock, you need to right click on this to see the below menu:


Click on 'Power Options' and the below screen will appear:


Find the 'Choose what closing the lid does' option on the left hand side. Once you click on that you will see the below screen:


As mentioned, the settings for pressing the power and sleep buttons are set centrally. However, if you click on the dropdowns next to 'When I close the lid' you can choose the action you want the laptop to perform:



To save the settings click on the 'Save changes' button.
